Voters agree to reduce Inverness park board size

Voters in the Inverness Park District on Tuesday overwhelmingly supported a recommendation to reduce the size of the district's board from seven members to five, according to unofficial totals.

With all five precincts reporting, unofficial totals show that 1,177 votes, or roughly 82 percent of the total, were cast in favor of the reduction, while 265 votes, or 18 percent, were cast against.

Park district officials had recommended the change, saying that in a small community like Inverness, it has been difficult to recruit seven people with the proper background to serve on the board. The board has operated with just five members for some time.
