Endorsement: Stolman for Lake County treasurer

The race for Lake County treasurer pits Lake County Board member David Stolman, a Buffalo Grove Republican, against Wadsworth Mayor Glenn Ryback, a Democrat. Incumbent Robert Skidmore is retiring. Stolman, 65, is an attorney. and Ryback, 61, is a real estate professional. Both offer strong public service resumes and civic involvement. We believe Stolman is the stronger of the two candidates. Stolman has extensive experience at the county level and a broad knowledge and understanding of county government and finances. His 22 years on the county board include two years each as chairman and vice chairman. Stolman pledges to be a proactive and visible public servant, and says he will continue outreach programs with the assessor's office to help homeowners understand the property tax system. He also plans to increase transparency by developing a searchable public database of all county finances. Stolman has said he wants to explore creative ways to improve taxpayer convenience, such as allowing monthly payments on property taxes and increasing the number of county drop boxes. He also wants the treasurer to be an ambassador for economic development. If elected, Stolman has said he will leave his county board post. He is endorsed.
