Female jockey punches another at Arlington
Two female jockeys ended their season with a bang - or rather a swing - at Arlington Park racetrack Friday, police said.
The altercation took place just before 4 p.m. after an incident at the practice track, 2200 Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights police Capt. Mike Hernandez said.
One woman, who was upset about an unknown incident, approached another woman and was then punched below the eye, Hernandez said.
The injured jockey refused to sign a complaint, and no charges were filed. Altercations between jockeys don't happen often, Hernandez said.
"This is rare, especially two jockeys getting into it. That's rare," he said.
Track security continued monitoring the women at the track to make sure they stayed away from each other, he said.
"To us, it was a nonevent," Hernandez said. "It wasn't even like a fight. It was just one punch and then it was over. With the party refusing to sign a complaint, there was nothing we could do at that point."
Arlington Park's racing season ended over the weekend.
