District 211 teachers, support staff get new contracts

The Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 school board approved a new four-year contract agreement with the district's teachers union at its meeting on Thursday night.

"This agreement is the result of a negotiation process that demonstrated the pledge on behalf of both the board of education and the union to sustain the district's quality educational programming while also honoring our commitment to operate the district with fiscal prudence and responsibility," said Superintendent Daniel Cates in a news release.

"Both sides worked together with a dual mission of positioning the district to continue delivering educational excellence to our students while also upholding our financial commitments to the communities we serve, and we are both proud of the resulting contract."

The teachers union ratified the contract in late August.

Under the new contract, which runs until June 2018, there will be a 0 percent increase for base salaries for the 2014-15 school year and base salary increases in later three years will be .2 percent, .25 percent and .4 percent.

The board on Thursday also approved a new contract with the District 211 United Support Staff Union.

"Our support staff plays an integral role in the delivery of the services we provide to our students, parents, and staff," Cates said in the release. "This joint agreement,

combined with the Teachers Union contract, provides four more years of stability relative to our instructional programs, financial responsibility and operational quality."
