A Hanover Park man suspected of murder in Cook County was arrested this week in southeast Missouri, the New Madrid County sheriff's office announced.

Hanover Park authorities would not comment on Kevin Malone's arrest or whether it was related to the fatal shooting of Schaumburg resident Lee Shaw on the 6600 block of Scott Lane Sept. 6.

Malone was charged Thursday with possession of a controlled substance in New Madrid County and with first-degree murder on a Cook County arrest warrant. He was arrested with Ana Garcia, who was charged with possession of a controlled substance in New Madrid County. She also was wanted on Cook County warrant alleging failure to register a change of address.

In a release posted on the department's Facebook page, the New Madrid County sheriff's police said that Hanover Park detectives investigating the homicide had determined through financial records that Malone and Garcia could be in the area of Marston, Mo.

The sheriff's department said the detectives called Pilot Truck Stop to ask if employees had seen the two. The employee taking the call handed the phone to Hayti Heights Police Chief Matt Brown, who happened to be in the store. Brown subsequently located a vehicle at a motel that matched a description from Hanover Park police and notified the New Madrid County sheriff's office.

Malone and Garcia were arrested after they left their motel room.

Authorities said they found a small bag of cocaine, as well as clothing that appeared to have been stained with blood.

Both Malone and Garcia are being held in the Pemiscot County jail in Missouri.
