Man wanted in Beach Park shooting arrested in Zion

A 27-year-old man on the run for shooting up a house in Beach Park has been arrested, authorities said Friday.

Members of the U.S. Marshal Service and the Lake County Sheriff's Office apprehended Joshua Malombo, of Beach Park, in the 1500 Block of Lorelei in Zion at 5 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

The arrest came after a warrant was issued for Malombo for firing shots inside a house near Green Bay and Wadsworth roads Aug. 29. The shooting caused nearby Beach Park schools to be placed on a soft lockdown, authorities said.

Malombo has been charged with multiple counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, reckless discharge of a firearm, and aggravated assault, sheriff's police said.

His bail has been set at $500,000, of which he must post 10 percent to be released.

Authorities said Malombo entered the house on the 38500 block of North Green Bay Road at 6:23 a.m. and threatened several people inside.

After someone in the house called police, Malombo allegedly fired several shots inside the residence, authorities said. No one was injured.

A perimeter was set up by authorities, and a soft lockdown was placed on all schools in Beach Park Elementary District 3, officials said.

Police discovered Malombo had run away after entering the house, police said, and called off the search at 11 a.m.
