An Elgin police officer was put on leave after he made Facebook comments about the unarmed teen shot and killed in Missouri last month. Jason A. Lentz, 40, was placed on paid administrative leave Aug. 21, Deputy Chief Bill Wolf said, after Lentz said a Missouri police officer “did society a favor” by shooting the teen. Full story.

Motorcyclist killed, passenger seriously injured in Aurora crash

A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger severely injured after being struck by a car Tuesday night in Aurora, police said. Jacob W. Hastert, 28, of Plainfield, was driving a 2005 Yamaha RS motorcycle southbound on Hill Avenue when a northbound 2011 Nissan Sentra turned left in front of him, Aurora police said. Full story.

Lawmakers want O'Hare noise standards reviewed sooner

A Hoffman Estates man enjoying a leisurely drive on I-355 Tuesday morning in his vintage 1965 mustang got a rude surprise when another driver intentionally crashed into the back of his car. The man accused rammed at least four other cars that morning, police said. Full story.

Chiropractor, wife sentenced for fraud

A former Lake in the Hills chiropractor and his fitness instructor wife were recently sentenced to federal prison for a $1 million health fraud scheme, officials said. Andrew Carr, 45, was sentenced to eight years at a hearing last week, while Wendy Carr, 43, received a 28-month sentence yesterday. Full story.

Cubs' Castro likely out for season with ankle sprain

Starlin Castro injured himself sliding awkwardly into home plate in the first inning of Tuesday night's game against the Brewers at Wrigley Field. An MRI and X-rays on Castro's left ankle revealed a high-ankle sprain, but that's enough of an injury to keep the all-star shortstop out for four weeks. Full story.
