Police: Chicago man stabbed woman 22 times

A Chicago man has been charged with killing his girlfriend by stabbing her 22 times with a steak knife.

Hector Rivera was ordered held without bond on the first-degree murder charge Tuesday. A Cook County state's attorney says Rivera stabbed Erenbira Pimentel-Hernandez during an argument in a stairwell in the Albany Park neighborhood Aug. 27.

A witness tells officers Rivera threatened to "get" her if she called police.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says the 38-year-old died at a hospital a few hours later. The death was ruled a homicide.

Police arrested 55-year-old Rivera on Sunday after he had fled to Indiana and returned. He's being held at the Cook County jail. Online jail records didn't indicate an attorney.
