Forest preserve offers Night Hike at Fullersburg Woods
Families can spend an evening under the stars as part of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District's new "Night Hike and S'more-gasbord" program from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center, 3609 Spring Road, Oak Brook.
The event will feature a self-guided hike through the evening woodland to look and listen for the animals that come out at night. Then, families can gather around the campfire to roast marshmallows to make the quintessential outdoor dessert, s'mores.
Visitors will be invited to pick from a buffet of ingredients for the classic style or to create their own recipe for a gooey treat.
"Night Hike and S'more-gasbord" is $5 per person and open to all ages, though children younger than 18 must be with an adult. To register, call Fullersburg Woods at (630) 850-8110.
"We designed this program for families to get a chance to enjoy the outdoors when the forest preserves would normally be closing for the day and to have fun making new recipes for an old favorite food," says Dave Andrusyk, a naturalist at Fullersburg Woods and one of the program's leaders.
