Train hits, kills woman walking dog in Wisconsin

SOLON SPRINGS, Wis. - Authorities in northwestern Wisconsin are investigating the death of a woman who was hit by a train.

WDIO-TV reports it happened in the Douglas County community of Solon Springs Monday evening. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says the 59-year-old woman was walking her dog and had just left a grocery store.

Authorities say she walked around lowered railway stop arms before the train struck her. They say lights and bells were active at the crossing.

Responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Authorities aren't releasing her name until relatives are notified.

The Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office and railroad police are investigating.
