Chipotle, Starbucks moving to former Palatine Applebee's site

A plan to bring a Chipotle Mexican Grill, Jersey Mike's Subs and a Starbucks to the site of a closed Applebee's on Dundee Road was approved this week by the Palatine village council.

In addition to the restaurants and coffee shop, the new retail complex at 781 E. Dundee Road will include an AT&T store, a Menchie's Frozen Yogurt and a medical office called Family and Immediate Care.

The proposal was put together by GMX Real Estate Group. Andrew Goodman, a principal with the group, said now that the plan has been approved they are set to demolish the former Applebee's next week to make way for a newer, bigger building,

The Starbucks will be relocating from the strip mall near Home Depot on Rand Road. The new location will be the first in Palatine to have a drive-through lane.

Four of the businesses required special use permits from the village, which all were approved by the council unanimously.

According to documents filed with the village, Family and Immediate Care will serve as an alternative to a hospital emergency room.

“Due to the typically high cost and long wait times at emergency rooms, members of the community are able to seek out treatment for ailments or injuries at a reduced cost and wait time,” the documents state.

The village council's vote to approve the plan was unanimous.

“These businesses will greatly enhance our village, so we look forward to it very much,” said council member Jim Clegg.
