Ex-North Chicago police officer, son sentenced for murder

A former North Chicago police officer and his son who were found guilty in the death of the father's mistress were sentenced to lengthy prison terms.

Forty-two-year-old Devin Bickham Sr. and 23-year-old Devin Bickham Jr., both of Blue Island, were convicted in May of first-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old Chervon Alexander of Chicago. Cook County prosecutors say Alexander was killed July 11, 2011, after she began pressuring the older Bickham to divorce his wife and marry her. Prosecutors say Bickham Sr. was sentenced Thursday to 95 years in prison. His son was sentenced last month to 50 years in prison.

A third man, 38-year-old Cardell Taylor, is awaiting trial.

Authorities say Alexander was shot to death in River Forest. The men were arrested as they fled the scene.
