Fort Wayne GM plant lacks parts, cancels shifts

Associated Press

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - An auto parts shortage has caused the cancellation of several shifts at the General Motors truck assembly plant in Fort Wayne.

GM spokeswoman Stephanie Jentgen says a breakdown at a supplier caused the problem that has affected shifts since Monday night.

The factory with about 4,000 workers assembles Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks.

Jentgen tells The Journal Gazette and WANE-TV that salaried employees have continued on the job and some hourly employees have been called in for work. Assembly workers are being told to report to work on Saturday to make up for the production losses.w
