More Illinois state workers making over $100,000
SPRINGFIELD - A published report has found that more than 10 percent of Illinois government employees made more than $100,000 in 2013 - up 1,600 from a year earlier.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reported Monday that overtime and back-wage payouts were responsible for many of the larger salaries.
The paper reported that 7,800 employees - just over 10 percent of the workforce - topped $100,000 in salary last year. They received a total of $966 million, or about 21 percent of the state payroll.
Anders Lindall of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union says compensation figures are skewed. He says staff shortages are causing overtime and back wages wouldn't pump up salaries had they been paid on time.
