Illinois firm uses lasers to restore Fort Wayne statue
FORT WAYNE, Indiana - An Illinois company is using lasers to clean a nearly century-old statue of Fort Wayne's namesake.
The bronze statue of Revolutionary War Gen. "Mad" Anthony Wayne has been damaged by time and vandals. Its last makeover was in 1993.
The Journal Gazette reports the Forest Park, Illinois, firm is using lasers to avoid damaging the statue with harsh detergents or abrasives. The company also will replace missing or damaged parts of the statue, including its spurs, reins and part of a sword blade.
Money for the restoration is coming from part of $100,000 the courthouse preservation trust gave the city for improvements to the statue and Freimann Square.
