Emanuel super PAC raises $1 million in 2 weeks

A super PAC created to help re-elect Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his allies on the Chicago City Council has raked in $1 million largely from high profile members of Chicago's business community.

Disclosure statements filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections this week show numerous $150,000 donations from several CEOs to the political action committee Chicago Forward.

They include Citadel Investment Group's Ken Griffin, Groupon's Eric Lefkofsky, and Samuel Mencoff of Madison Dearborn Partners.

Chicago Forward was formed late last month by Rebecca Carroll, former chief communications officer for Chicago Public Schools.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the super PAC has enlisted consultants who have worked on nationally-watched campaigns around the country and could work to fend off a potential challenge Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.
