Hoffman Estates blaze injures firefighter
The Hoffman Estates Fire Department continues to investigate a Saturday afternoon house fire that injured a firefighter.
Firefighters called at 12:58 p.m. to the house at 180 Aster Lane arrived to find smoke visible from the roof of the one-story structure. The department responded with 20 firefighting personnel, as well as four engines, a ladder truck, a rescue squad and two ambulances.
Deputy Chief Greg Schuldt said officials determined the fire started in the attic of the house but a cause was not found. The injured firefighter was treated for minor injuries and was back working later Saturday, Schuldt said.
The home's owners were able to get out safely despite their smoke detectors failing to alert them to the fire, officials said. Damage was estimated at $50,000.
