Bloomington zoo adding money with state grant
BLOMMINGTON - The Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington will use a $700,000 state grant to pay for a new monkey exhibit, parking and other work.
According to the Pantagraph in Bloomington, the zoo is getting the money from the Illinois Public Museum Capital Grant Program. The funds are generated by the state capital program Illinois Jobs Now.
Superintendent Jay Tetzloff said the zoo will add a DeBrazza's monkey in an exhibit that should open in 2016. They're native to forests and wetlands of central Africa.
The zoo also plans to add parking and renovate the zoo's entrance building.
The projects are part of the zoo's master plan.
Miller Park will celebrate its 123rd anniversary on Saturday.
