Motorcyclist hurt in head-on collision in Pingree Grove
An 18-year-old Bartlett woman is being investigated for hit-and-run and driving under the influence after striking a motorcyclist head-on Thursday night in Pingree Grove.
Police said the woman was speeding on Route 20 east of Route 47 and swerved into the wrong lane, hitting a man on a motorcycle around 7 p.m.
The woman kept driving for a quarter-mile until her car went into a ditch, then got out and started running through a nearby field, said Sgt. Rich Blair.
The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
Blair said the man was conscious at the scene.
Police did not release the name of the woman or if she had been formally charged yet but said officials were investigating her for driving under the influence and hit-and-run.
Blair said she was "visibly inebriated."
Police from Kane County, Illinois State Police, Hampshire, Gilberts and Pingree Grove were all on the scene of the accident, which closed down traffic on Route 20 for several hours on Thursday night.
