Heavy rain causing flooded streets in northern suburbs

The rain continues to fall hard in the northern suburbs, causing some flooded streets and slow commute times.

Meteorologists said showers are likely this morning, mainly before 10 a.m., before it turns cloudy with a high near 60 degrees.

Precipitation amounts are expected to reach between a tenth and a quarter of an inch in the northern suburbs, meteorologists forecast on National Weather Service website.

Some roadways are reporting lane closures due to standing water on the pavement. Southbound Milwaukee Avenue north of Route 60 in Libertyville has been reduced to one lane, while Sunset Avenue near Delany Road in Gurnee has been closed. People are urged to use extreme care and seek alternate routes.
