Boy, 17, missing after swimming mishap near dam

EDINBURGH, Ind. - Authorities are temporarily halting the search for a teenage boy who vanished after jumping into the water beneath an Indiana dam to help rescue a trapped girl.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said the search for 17-year-old Jason Moran would resume Saturday morning.

The agency says in a written statement that Moran was one of five teenagers who were swimming in the Big Blue River on Friday. Two of the other teens were critically injured.

The accident happened when 16-year-old Sarah Mclevish was swept over the Edimburgh dam and became trapped.

Moran and three other teenage boys then tried to rescue Mclevish. They were overcome by the force of the water, which was at flood stage.

Mclevish and 16-year-old Michale Chadbourne are in critical condition at an Indianapolis hospital.
