Learn how to run for elected office at Elgin meeting

The Elgin OCTAVE will conduct a candidate workshop explaining everything you need to know to run for Elgin City Council, mayor or other local elected offices. The next Elgin City Council/mayoral election will be held in April 2015.

The workshop will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, in the basement of the Elgin Township Building, 729 S. McLean Blvd.

This workshop is free and there is no need to preregister. This is open to anyone of any political persuasion.

Attorney Jeff Meyer will explain the legal aspects of running for elected office. George Rawlinson will make a presentation on how to run a campaign and will cover typical campaign expenses.

The workshop will close with a round-table discussion by two sitting council members and two former council members. They will give their thoughts on what is involved in running for the council and they will take questions from the audience.

If you have any questions, call (847) 622-1835, or email to chuck.keysor@sbcglobal.net.

Information will be posted on elginoctave.org and the Elgin OCTAVE Facebook page.
