Duckworth to lead Chicago's Memorial Day parade

U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth is the grand marshal of Chicago's Memorial Day Parade.

The festivities begin with a wreath laying ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Daley Plaza. The parade will follow at noon along State Street.

Duckworth is a first-term Democratic congresswoman from Hoffman Estates and a war veteran. She was a Blackhawk helicopter pilot in Iraq in 2004 when she lost both her legs and partial use of one arm in an attack.

Other area parades will be held throughout the holiday weekend, including Naperville's on Monday at 10:30 a.m.
