Harvest's Doby, Elgin Academy's Pearson reach finals

Harvest Christian senior Sydney Doby and Elgin Academy junior Kaitlyn Pearson each advanced to the finals in their respective events Thursday during the Class 1A girls state track and field meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Doby reached Saturday's finals in the discus throw by winning her flight with a distance of 113 feet, 5 inches.

Pearson, meanwhile, tied with Tremont's Amelia Glueck for the fastest 100-meter dash time of the day, finishing in 12.255 seconds.

Pearson also compete in the 200-meter dash but fell short of qualifying for the finals with a time of 25.96.

Also competing Thursday but failing to reach the finals were Harvest Christian junior Kylee Knox in the 110 high hurdles (17.2) and Lions' junior Valerie Richter in the 800 (2:23.42).
