Bill banning ticket quotas heads to governor
SPRINGFIELD - Legislation banning police departments from issuing quotas on tickets is now waiting for the governor's signature.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reported the bill prevents any law enforcement agency from requiring officers to write a certain number of traffic citations within a specific time period. Police officers also couldn't be evaluated on the number of citations they issue.
The measure was drafted by Sen. Andy Manar, a Democrat from Bunker Hill. It passed the House Wednesday after previously being approved in the Senate.
The bill does allow departments to issue quotas for arrests, stops and other interactions.
The governor has 30 days to decide whether to sign the bill.
