Nothing but sun

We had our house built 10 years ago. We have three kids and only one income and we have put the yard last on the list of priorities. Our backyard faces south and gets nothing but sun all day. This is nice on cool days, but can make our yard unusable on hot summer days. Other than the swing set for the kids and patio chairs for the adults to lounge in, the backyard is definitely boring. Please help bring some excitement to our backyard!
