Elgin Children's Chorus to share 'Harmonies and Melodies'

Members of the Elgin Children's Chorus will take the stage this weekend for their final concert of the organization's 28th season.

Just as harmony is the succession of notes out of which melody is formed, so is the beautiful blend of children's voices, from every nationality and region, as they share their song.

The "Harmonies and Melodies" concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Elgin Community College's Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Tickets are $15, $12 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at tickets.elgin.edu or by calling (847) 622-0300.

"Harmonies and Melodies" will feature a wide selection of pieces ranging from classical to contemporary in order to celebrate the beauty that is the harmony of children's voices. Pieces to be performed include "Set Down Servant", arrangement by Robert Shaw and "Let It Go" from Frozen, arranged by Mac Huff. The final song, "Fill the World with a Song" by Alan Pote, will feature all of the ensembles combined.

The concert will feature a selection of featured performers, including alumnus and guest soloist Clee McCracken. Clee was a part of the Elgin Children's Chorus for four years and graduated from Larkin High School. He is currently studying as a voice major at Lawrence University. Clee will be singing two movements from Robert Schumann's Liederkreis, Op 39, as well as a song from Evening Primrose by Stephen Sondheim.

The Elgin Children's Chorus Boys Ensemble will also make its 2014 seasonal debut with two energetic pieces. The Boys Ensemble consists of male voices from all ensembles, ages 6-16.

Lastly, "Harmonies and Melodies" will feature the Alumni Ensemble, made up of nearly two dozen chorus alumni. The alumni joining the chorus were a part of the chorus anywhere from 26 years ago to just two years ago. The Alumni Ensemble will be performing a song on its own, as well as joining the other ensembles for combined pieces.

The Elgin Children's Chorus is home to five different choirs, affording membership to singers with a variety of abilities. All choirs rehearse and perform regularly throughout the Fox Valley Area.
