Baseball: Fox Valley roundup Wednesday, April 30

St. Edward 7, Guerin 3: Tighe Koehring was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and David Groves went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI to lead the Green Wave to a Suburban Christian Conference win. Michael Castoro was also 2-for-2 with an RBI, with Tyler Tomaka and Ryan Nudd each driving in runs for St. Edward as well. Nick Bouley picked up the win for the Wave (7-12-1, 6-5), allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in 4 innings.

Jacobs 11, CL Central 5: Danny Vandewalker was 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI and Ryan Sargent went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI as Jacobs won in the Fox Valley Conference. Jake Jemmi added a 2-for-4 day with a double and 2 RBI for the Golden Eagles (16-7, 10-1), while Vince Coletti and Ben Murray added doubles. Tim Hubner, one of three Jacobs pitchers, picked up the win allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run in 3 innings.

Cary-Grove 4, McHenry 1: Larkin Hanselmann scattered 6 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks as Cary-Grove (13-8, 8-3) prevailed in the FVC Valley. Andrew Splitt (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Dean Christakes (2-for-4, RBI) and Will McGarrigle (RBI) led the Trojans' offense.

Johnsburg 3, Hampshire 0: Michael Merchut was 2-for-2 but the Whip-Purs (7-12, 2-9) managed just 2 other hits, one a double from Nick Mohlman, in this FVC Fox loss. Alex Crinigan gave up just 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks in suffering the loss on the mound.

Waubonsie Valley 8, Elgin 7: The Maroons had a 7-6 lead after five innings but gave up two in the sixth in this Upstate Eight loss. Matt Karinski was 2-for-4 with a home run, double and 4 RBI for Elgin (6-10, 4-9) and Ryan Sitter had a double. Jon Nelson was the losing pitcher.

Geneva 5, South Elgin 3: The Storm managed just 3 hits and had 3 errors in this UEC loss. Tyler Brown and Ryan Nutof each drove in runs for South Elgin and Maxwell Keough took the loss.
