Conant turns away Fremd in OT

Conant survived a close call with Fremd in an 11-10 overtime decision in girls water polo on Monday.

Fremd's Sam DiCanio scored late in the fourth quarter to tie it up and send the game to OT.

Angie Skittone scored in the first OT to put Conant up by 1 goal, and Carmes Rosas scored on a counterattack to put the Cougars up by 2.

DiCanio scored on a penalty shot with 51 second left in overtime, but Conant was able to protect its 1-goal edge.

The victory keeps Conant in first place in the MSL West, 1 game ahead of Palatine.

Rosas finished with 5 goals to lead Conant (18-4, 8-0), while DiCanio had 5 goals for Fremd (9-12, 4-4).

• Palatine got big games from Caroline Wojtas (7 goals, 4 assists), Rachel Chumbook (2 goals, 2 assists) and Lauren Rasor (2 goals, 3 assists) to power past Schaumburg 13-3 in MSL West play.

Kim Butler stopped 12 shots for the Pirates (21-3, 7-1).

Britney Vasquez led the Saxons with 2 goals.

• Barrington's Mia Latimer scored five times and Sam Gavars had 4 goals to helped the Fillies past Hoffman Estates 11-4.
