Antioch teen admits to abusing young girl

An 18-year-old Antioch man pleaded guilty Wednesday to sexually assaulting a young girl in Elk Grove Village nearly two years ago.

Sean P. Hayes, of the 800 block of Heartland Park Lane, was sentenced by Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta to six years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea. He must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole and must register as a sex offender upon his release, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Mike Gerber.

Hayes disclosed the abuse, which occurred on July 14, 2012, during a session with a therapist who subsequently reported it to authorities, Gerber said. Although Hayes was 16 at the time, he was charged as an adult because of the nature of the crime, Gerber said.
