Cardinal will miss canonizations

Chicago Francis Cardinal George will not travel to Rome for the canonization of Popes John Paul II and John XXIII as planned and instead will remain in Chicago, the archdiocese said Tuesday afternoon.

A news release also said the cardinal has resumed his chemotherapy that had been delayed due to an infection he incurred in late March.

"Upon the advice of his doctors, the Cardinal has decided to remain in Chicago and not travel to Rome ... as he had originally planned," the release said. "Cardinal George intends to maintain his scheduled participation in the Holy Week services and Easter Sunday Mass at Holy Name Cathedral." T

The popes will be canonized on April 27.
