Markham man pleads guilty in NIU student death

SYCAMORE - A Markham man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting of a Northern Illinois University student in 2011.

The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle reports 21-year-old Chaz Thrailkill entered his plea Tuesday, two weeks before he was set to go to trial for the death of 22-year-old Steven Agee II.

Thrailkill was sentenced to 25 years in prison for first-degree murder and another five years for attempted aggravated discharge of a firearm. He could have faced a 45-year-sentence if he'd been convicted during a trial.

Authorities say Thrailkill killed the Park Forest man during an argument at an off-campus party in DeKalb. Thrailkill wasn't an NIU student, but was visiting a friend.
