Screening lesson for men of a certain age

Screening lesson for men of a certain age

When I was told I had cancer, I didn't let the shock last long. I almost immediately put my mind to work on how I was going to beat this thing. And I have beaten it with the help of family, prayer and putting my full faith in the wisdom and skill of two total strangers - my doctors. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart.

Dr. Eli Michaels of Northwest Suburban Urology Associates at Alexian Brothers Medical Center gave me my diagnosis, but also gave me hope. Everything from the biopsy to the breaking of the bad news was done professionally and with compassion.

Dr. Brian Moran at Chicago Prostate Center is a surgical genius, not to mention a pretty nice guy. Four months after my diagnosis and surgery, the cancer has been brought under control. Thanks for your great work and thank you for genuinely caring for me as a patient, Dr. Moran.

I also want to thank Dr. Stephen Behnke of the Alexian Brothers Medical Group for ordering the PSA test that found my cancer. I encourage every man in my age group - I am 62 - to get screened for prostate cancer. I did, and I think it saved my life.
