Hanover Park police release results of traffic enforcement campaign

Hanover Park police arrested motorists on charges of driving under the influence and driver's license infractions during an enforcement campaign over St. Patrick's Day weekend, authorities said.

"We warned partygoers not to drink and drive, and we backed it up with aggressive enforcement," Deputy Police Chief Tom Cortese said in a news release.

Police arrested one driver on a DUI charge and three others on charges of driving while license suspended or driving without a valid driver's license, police said. Nearly 30 other citations were issued, including nine for seat belt violations. Police also caught one motorist driving while using a cellphone, according to the department.

The crackdown was funded by federal dollars distributed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
