Libertyville wins opener in Florida

Senior Carlie Haraden stepped up big in the circle, stopping a two-inning rally to "grab the momentum for us," coach Elissa Wisniewski said, as Libertyville's softball team opened its season with a 15-5 win over Elizabeth Forward (Pa.) in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday.

Andi Katz and Madi Dembinski led the Wildcats' offensive attack, as each player went 3-for-4. Katz doubled and knocked in 4 runs, while Dembinski had a double and 2 RBI. Libertyville also received 2-for-3 efforts from Jessie Lauret (RBI) and Kenzie Rother. Haley Alban (1-for-1) started a Wildcats' rally with a double.

"Timely hits and great baserunning allowed us to take and maintain the lead," said Wisniewski, whose team pulled even at 5-5 by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the second, before busting out with 8 runs in the fourth.

Haraden pitched 4 scoreless innings in relief, allowing only 3 hits and not walking a batter.

"Great comeback win to start the year," Wisniewski said.
