Services for Yancey set

Visitation and services for Waukegan City Clerk Artis Yancey have been set for Monday and Tuesday.

A wake will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Mt. Sinai Church, 2401 Argonne Drive, North Chicago. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. at the church. Call (847) 336-0127.

Yancey, 54, died Wednesday morning. He had a long history of public service with the city and Lake County.

He served 21 years on the Waukegan Police Department, rising through the ranks until his appointment as chief in 2009. He retired as chief in August 2010. A Democrat, he was appointed by the Lake County Board as coroner in 2011. He ran for that position in 2012 but lost in the Democratic primary.

The soft-spoken Yancey was elected city clerk in 2013.
