Palatine, Conant earn MSL West wins

Palatine and Conant each earned victories over two of the Mid-Suburban West's recent girls water polo powers on Wednesday.

The host Pirates earned 9-3 victory over Fremd as senior Rachel Chumbook had 5 goals and 2 assists and junior Caroline Wojtas had 3 goals.

Kim Butler made 14 saves in goal for Palatine, and Jackie Kincanon had a goal. Samantha Barry scored twice for Fremd.

Conant topped the defending MSL champion Fillies 16-10 with a balanced attack featuring Carmen Rosas (7 goals), Angela Skittone (4), Sam Wooley (3) and Kaitlyn Claffey (2). Goalie Maddie Demaret stopped 9 shots.

Sam Gavars did most of the damage for Barrington, accounting for 8 of the Fillies' goals.

Emily Weingart drew 3 ejections for Conant, Rosas had 4 steals and Wooley and Skittone had 3 steals apiece.

Wheeling 7, Propsect 5: Theresa Godlewski, Emily Sowa and Argelia Diaz each scored a pair of goals while Richards added the other for Wheeling.

Niki Neumann and Danielle McCallister led Prospect with 2 goals apiece while teammate Mary Schiavone had one.

Hersey 13, Rolling Meadows 2: The defending Mid-Suburban East champs rolled to a victory on the road.
