CCA announces six scholarship winners

Consumers Cooperative Association, the sponsor of Consumers Credit Union, awarded six $1,500 scholarships at its 84th annual meeting March 12.

The recipients, all Lake County high school seniors, are able to use the scholarship at the college or university of their choice.

"The ability to assist our youth in attending the college of their choice through our scholarship program is a point of great joy and pride for the association," noted Elizabeth (Liz) Oldham, president of Consumers Cooperative Association.

"We believe it is critical that we support our young people by providing the opportunity for them to receive a higher education. We hope these scholarships help our winners achieve their dreams as they journey from high school today, to become the leaders of tomorrow.

"We're proud to help them with that opportunity and look forward to seeing the great things they're sure to accomplish."

The 2014 Scholarship winners include: Jacqueline Martinez, Vernon Hills High School; Brittany M. Turner, Zion Benton Township High School; Kierstin B. Johansen, Lakes Community High School; Anthony V. Cloe, Antioch Community High School; Matt G. Kushman, Mundelein High School; and Kevin R. Woolums, Grant Community High School.

"Consumers Credit Union is proud that our sponsor places so much importance on both higher education and the youth of our community," said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU President/CEO.

"We know the future of these communities relies heavily on developing future leaders. The association scholarship program provides students with that opportunity and gives our youth a chance to realize goals which otherwise may have been out of reach."
