Mo Khan declares victory in 20th House Democratic primary

A political newcomer declared victory Tuesday night as he held a slim lead in the 20th House District Democratic primary election race.

With 84 of 85 precincts reporting, Mo Khan led Jerry Acciari 2,200 to 2,043 votes, according to unofficial returns. Khan, 28, a full-time law student from Park Ridge, said there weren't enough votes in the remaining Chicago-based precinct to make up the difference.

Khan said he was already making preparations for a general election battle against Republican state Rep. Michael McAuliffe, a 17-year incumbent.

The 20th House District includes portions of the near Northwest suburbs and Chicago's Northwest Side.
