Elect treasurer who can keep promises

Hardly a week goes by where I don't read a letter to the editor complaining about property taxes being too high - for good reason. They are too high, especially here in Lake County.

That is why I was intrigued when I heard David Stolman, Republican candidate for Lake County treasurer, talk about lowering our property taxes. I've heard way too many candidates talk about lowering property taxes, and I know enough about how the system works to know that none of them can come through on their promises. So it was refreshing to see that Stolman was telling the truth.

His goal is to make government expenditures more transparent in order to equip taxpayers to fight against wasteful spending at the local level. He clearly understands what too few of my taxpaying neighbors do not - that we cannot sit back and expect politicians to fix this problem for us.

The only way to fix it is to get out to our local board meetings and fight for fiscal responsibility. David's description of his management style and accountability principles made me believe he would run the office of treasurer in a manner that would be efficient and cost effective, exactly what we need to work on reducing the rising tax issues in our county.

With so many politicians making promises they can't deliver, I like that this candidate is honest about the problem and the solution. David Stolman has my vote.
