Lab tests show Skittles had no unusual chemicals
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana State Health Department has given Skittles a clean bill of health.
The agency announced Thursday night that laboratory tests on packages of Original Skittles sold at a Richmond convenience store contain no unusual chemical substances. It says the candy contains no toxins and is safe to eat.
The lab results come a day after the agency announced two people who ate from a package of Skittles required hospital treatment for burning throats, cramping and diarrhea. It warned people not to eat from packages from two lots of the candy.
The agency says it continues to investigate the cause of illnesses.
A spokeswoman for Skittles producer William Wrigley Jr. Co. of Chicago said Thursday it was investigating the matter.
