Respect the history, prepare for the future

Libertyville is an appealing place to raise a family. The unique dichotomy of old and new is what sets this town apart. The proposed Brainerd Community Center is a perfect example of this unique dichotomy.

The elements of old and new envelop the community. It is best displayed in downtown's appearance. Buildings have been preserved to maintain their invaluable history. Simultaneously, they have been remodeled to allow for modern conveniences. Brainerd would be the combination of old and new that would be consistent with the town.

Libertyville has consistently paid homage to its history, and, meanwhile, met the needs of the current residents. The Civic Center and Town Hall are examples of buildings that have been changed to meet our needs. The Brainerd Building could be the next example of how Libertyville chooses to respect its rich history while meeting the needs of its current and future residents.

Brainerd's potential is endless but will quickly end if we choose to deviate from the precedents set forth by prior generations and tear it down.

Now it is our turn to choose a path. For longtime Libertyville resident, can you put aside your needs and try to provide for future generations? For newer Libertyville residents, can you look around and appreciate how Libertyville's history has been preserved and adapted to meet the community's needs?

For Libertyville residents that grew up here and have chosen to raise your family here, can you ask yourself why you made that choice?

The Brainerd Community Center is a choice presented to us now. Will you choose to enrich the lives of our current and future generations while celebrating the past?

If you take some time to think about who Libertyville is, the choice is very clear.

Save Brainerd.
