Fire cancels Hamburg Ballet in Chicago

An electrical fire Wednesday afternoon at Millennium Park's Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Chicago has forced the cancellation of Hamburg Ballet's two performances of choreographer John Neumeier's "Third Symphony of Gustav Mahler" this week.

No injuries occurred as a result of the fire, according to Harris Theater director of PR & Communications Matt de la Peña. But officials at the 1,525-seat theater made the decision to cancel the performances after assessing the initial damage.

The Hamburg Ballet performances would have marked only the second time the esteemed German company would have played the Harris Theater.

The Harris Theater is contacting ticketholders for refunds for the performances scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 19 and 20. For more information, call (312) 334-7777 or visit harristheaterchicago.org.
