Man held on $5M bond for Romeoville shooting

ROMEOVILLE — A suburban man is being held on $5 million bond after he was accused of shooting a teenager and her mother while they were in the driveway of a Romeoville home.

Twenty-three-year-old Erick M. Maya of Cicero is charged with two counts of attempted murder along with aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon for Thursday's shooting.

He was arrested Friday.

Both the 15-year-old girl and her 33-year-old mother survived the attack, but the girl remained in critical condition after being shot in the head. Her mother was shot in the neck and was in good condition.

Police Chief Mark Turvey says the shooting was "point blank" and called it a targeted attack. Authorities say Maya once dated the teen.

It wasn't clear if Maya had an attorney.
