1 dies in house fire in central Illinois

LEXINGTON - Fire officials say one person died in a house fire in the small, rural central Illinois community of Lexington.

Wednesday's blaze took firefighters more than seven hours to extinguish. The found the person's body in the kitchen of the home.

The Bloomington Pantagraph reports the house was once a schoolhouse built in the 1860s.

The person's name hasn't been released, but an autopsy is scheduled to take place Thursday.

The state fire marshal's office is investigating.

Lexington has about 2,000 residents and is about 15 miles northeast of Bloomington.
