College football union walks fine line

I have been following the Northwestern football players wanting to be classified employees of the university. I feel they are walking a tight line here.

If they are on scholarship and deemed to be employees and join a union, then the scholarship would be considered compensation and like every other employed person they should have to pay income taxes on their income (the scholarship).

I think if this happens the IRS would probably take a hard look at it.

Maybe they should consider the ramifications of what they are asking for. Also, how would the non-scholarship players fit in?
