Does trophy hunting square with religion?

Pastor Keith Gomez, a bow hunter, has lined the atrium of his Baptist Church with the heads of 226 animals, (Daily Herald, Thursday, April 10).

An animal shot with an arrow is seldom killed outright, and before it finally dies will suffer much pain, just as you or I would. I can't understand how this torturous killing adheres to the tenet of any compassionate religion, and I sure wouldn't want to enter a church decorated with the heads of thinking, feeling animals that were slaughtered for a trophy.
