Competent or a 'thank you' job?

Competent or a 'thank you' job?

I do not know whether Bruce Rauner would be a so-so, good or great governor but this I do know. I would rather have one that is very wealthy to support getting his message out (campaigning) rather than one that has to rely on big donations.

That way he would not be beholden to his contributors that give big bucks and expect something in return; if not for himself, then surely for the children, cousins, friends, etc.

For instance, remember Governor Blagojevich's business dealings and now our Governor Quinn's hiring James Sweeney to be director of the Illinois Tollway. This is the same James Sweeney who heads The Operating Engineers Local 150 that recently gave Quinn $250,000.

This is after Mr. Sweeney, who is also chairman of the Chicago Operators Joint Labor Management contributed $150,000. Governor Quinn probably isn't doing anything illegal, however shouldn't we be tired of the old "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" mentality that has been going on for years in Chicago politics.

Mr. Sweeney might be competent to be director of the tollway, but how does one know who is competent and who is being given a job just as a "thank you" when the politicians get big contributions?
