Build it, but they might not come

It's not bad enough that as residents of the southeast edge of Geneva and the northeast edge of Batavia had to put up with garbage and transfer trucks making hundreds of trips a day to Settler's Hill landfill to unload garbage for years. Now if Kane County candidate for board John Martin is elected to office, he will support his predecessor's plan in voting to approve the new large scale cross country track site and new parking lot at Settler's Hill.

Doing this, as the new plan calls for, will require the county to collect 200,000 cubic yards of fill and some existing board members even approve and agree on taking on an extra 300,000 cubic yards for a total of 500,000 cubic yards.

So now that the landfill has been closed for a few years and all the roads leading to the site have been repaired or replaced, how much more traffic do we need on Farnsworth or Fabyan Roads? How much premature wear to our new roads will this cause? What about the dirt, dust and mud that will be left behind on the roads for all the residents to have to deal with again?

Lets "Keep the Promise" and build what was originally designed, presented at public hearing and approved, a public use site which included many uses for the public to enjoy. Not an overblown cross country course that will be used a couple times a year if any at all, as the county has no commitment for use from any school, college or other for profit organizations. Just because they build it does not mean they will come.
