Route 83 section closed Thursday:

Commuters will be directed to a detour Thursday morning if they plan to use a section of Route 83 in Grayslake. Illinois Department of Transportation officials say Route 83, immediately south of Route 137, will be fully closed at the CN Railroad crossing for about two hours beginning at 9:30 a.m. CN needs to perform emergency repairs to roughly nine failing concrete pads that make up the Route 83 crossing grade. Southbound Route 83 traffic will be directed southeast on Route 137, then south on Route 45, west on Peterson Road and back to Route 83. Northbound Route 83 traffic will be directed east on Peterson to northbound Route 45, then northwest on Route 137 and back to Route 83. Officials said Route 83 is expected to be fully open by noon Thursday.
